Charles Upchurch has been buying, refinishing and selling American oak, antique furniture
for over 25 years.
Even before retirement as a public high school Social Studies teacher in 1993, he
spent his summers, weekends and evenings working, refinishing and restoring oak furniture.
Now having even more time available, he has refined his refinishing and restoration
techniques to include chair caning and mirror resilvering, available to the public
today.

In the early days of his career in the antique business-though a part-time career-furniture
sales resulted from exhibits at local craft shows in the Spring and Fall of each
year. As his list of customer contacts grew, he began to appear at larger and more
sophisticated antique shows in Atlanta such as the D. S. Clark Show and also shows
in Nashville. When he retired from public education his next move upward was to
sale at the Scott's Antique Marketon the second weekend of each month in Atlanta.
This remains as one of his exhibits and sales. He also sets up and sells at the
Virginia Highlands Antique Festival in Abingdon, Virginia each July-August. And
even though his sales at these shows are consistent, his major business is out of
a circa 1850 log house in his backyard in Mableton. His restoration and mirror
resilvering is done here as well.
